Celebrating Shared Purpose: Plastech and World Central Kitchen Look Toward Greater Impact Together

Alongside AOS Distributors, Plastech Products is exploring how ZERO Plastic products can support the organization’s extraordinary humanitarian work and sustainability goals.
When disaster strikes, a freshly prepared meal can bring comfort, stability, and a moment of connection to someone facing unimaginable circumstances.
World Central Kitchen understands that power. Founded by Chef José Andrés and his wife, Patricia, WCK responds to humanitarian, climate, and community crises by working with local teams to get food to people who need it. Its approach centers on urgency, listening, and adapting to each community’s needs.
At Plastech Products, we deeply admire that work. We are proud to welcome World Central Kitchen as a customer—and to explore how the products used behind the scenes can support its commitment to sustainability.

A Growing Relationship With a Shared Purpose
Plastech CEO Mark Nathan recently joined our partners at AOS Distributors for a visit to World Central Kitchen’s corporate offices in Washington, D.C. The meeting built on a customer relationship that began over the past few months and focused on opportunities to further support WCK’s sustainability efforts worldwide.
For Plastech, the conversation begins with understanding the realities of WCK’s operations: what teams need, how products are used, and where replacing conventional plastic could make a practical difference.
Nathan described the visit as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship and strategize with WCK’s team about how Plastech can help reduce the plastic associated with its work.
The goal is straightforward: support the people delivering meals while identifying opportunities to reduce the materials left to manage afterward.

Small Changes Can Matter at Extraordinary Scale
WCK’s reach illustrates why everyday purchasing decisions deserve attention. In its December 2024 year-in-review, the organization reported providing more than 109 million meals across 20 countries.
At that scale, even a change to one frequently used supply can add up. In 2026, WCK now reports over 884 MILLION meals provided during emergency situations.
Plastech offers plant-based, ZERO Plastic alternatives, including certified home compostable multipurpose bags, designed to replace conventional plastic products in everyday use. Where these products replace conventional plastic supplies, they create a direct opportunity to reduce conventional plastic purchasing.

Connecting Plastic Reduction With Better Waste Management
Reducing conventional plastic use is one part of the opportunity. Another is understanding what happens after a product has served its purpose.
Where suitable composting systems accept the specific products, compostable alternatives may help organizations divert eligible materials from general trash. The disposal pathway matters: home compostability does not mean a product will break down as intended in every environment or that every commercial composting facility will accept it.
For an organization operating across different communities and countries, that calls for a location-by-location approach. Product selection, clear disposal instructions, collection systems, and local processing options all contribute to the outcome.
This is where a pilot can provide valuable insight: identifying what works in practice and what could be expanded.
Proud to Support the People Who Show Up
What we admire most about World Central Kitchen is its willingness to act when people need help.
Plastech is proud to play a supporting role through this growing relationship. Together with AOS Distribution, we look forward to exploring practical ways to reduce conventional plastic use and support WCK’s sustainability efforts as it continues its vital work.
